1. This first group is the easiest of the easiest. They are the simplest tasks, usually needing only 5 – 30 minutes of work. Don’t delay, they are going fast!
Cashier - Be available 15 minutes at beginning of troop meetings to collect payments as parents arrive. Write receipts. Give money to troop treasurer. The period of time before Boxwell Summer Camp is one of the few times during the year when you will see much activity. Maybe around our fall fundraiser too. Don’t worry; being a bill collector, tracking down late payers, is NOT part of the job description.
Health Form Organizer – Volunteer for one or more of the following tasks… 1. Provide a health form to new scouts. 2. Remind parents annually when it’s time to renew. 3. Provide copy to scoutmaster to have on camping trips for emergencies.
SCOUT SHOP DRIVER – Anyone who drives to Huntsville, Murfreesboro, Clarksville, or Nashville on a fairly regular basis and could occasionally pick up items for the troop would be a big help. The week before a Court of Honor is when most items are picked up.
NEW MEMBER PROCESSOR – When a new scout joins our troop, you would collect the application and the fee. Then you would give the Unit Copy to the appropriate Troop leader. Finally, you can either mail the remaining Council Copy to the council registrar (or alternatively see to it that it is delivered to our District Executive at a Roundtable meeting). Done. Simple as pie (unless, of course, you are the scoutmaster with 342 other little tasks in front of you).
PHOTOGRAPHER – No, you don’t need to be a professional photographer. All parents can help with this. Do you enjoy snapping pictures? The troop needs photos for several reasons. We send them with thank you notes to financial contributors. We need photos for newspaper articles. We need them for a troop Scrapbook. And they’re fun to share. Have some scout/troop photos already? Please send them to the Troop Secretary.
SEAMSTRESS – The scouts should learn to sew on their own uniform patches, but few know how to sew. Could you spend 15-30 minutes one week showing them how to sew a patch?
