3. Ready to dive in with a little more of a challenge? I’m no pantywaist. Tell me about the tough jobs! ROUNDTABLE REPRESENTATIVE - The Roundtable is a monthly meeting in Pulaski for the four counties in our scout district. Every unit should have a representative attend. They usually have informational handouts, free goodies, and speak about upcoming events. Could you attend one or more times in the upcoming year?
Popcorn sales supervisor – oversee annual BSA popcorn fundraising event. This is a big job, but you will have help from several others. If you have the people skills for this annual fundraising event, we want to hear from you!
CAMPERSHIP COORDINATOR – Once a year, before Boxwell Summer Camp (and maybe Winter Camp too), you would distribute Campership forms to all parents. Collect completed forms and send them (fax/mail/or roundtable meeting) to the council office. This is a very important task needing to be done each year and your help would be greatly appreciated. It’s also very easy to do. Just check off names from the provided list as you hand them out. Then fax them to the council office.
SCOUT ACCOUNT MANAGER – This is mostly bookkeeping and you work closely with the troop treasurer. Scouts can earn $$ for themselves and the troop through individual fundraising efforts. Similar to reconciling a checkbook, you would keep track of dollars going into, and being spent from, individual Scout Accounts. The treasurer handles depositing and dispersing the funds. It’s not as hard as it sounds. Not that many scouts/parents typically become involved in individual fundraising efforts.
MERIT BADGE COUNSELING – There are over 100 merit badges, from Coin Collecting to Marketing to Home Repairs to Gardening and Pottery, just to name a few. Can you spend some time to teach a merit badge class? This Guide for Merit Badge Counselors is worth looking at. We can get you all set up with everything you need. And, if you act now, you can sign up to be a merit badge counselor for FREE! Hey Moms, you can do these too. The more, the merrier.
NEXT: Get serious and join Scouting.
